About us
Bzenia, Ltd (Bzenia, s.r.o.) is a modern winery which operates in the Czech Republic. The company was established in 2003. We own 10 hectares of vineyards, that are situated in the top quality agricultural sites in the wine region of Bzenec (Bzenec is a town in the south of Moravia). We have chosen to grow traditional and time-proven wine varieties e.g. Rhein Riesling (Ryzlink rýnský), which is the most typical white variety grown in Bzenec, furthermore we have Pinot Blanc (Rulandské bílé), Pinot Gris (Rulandské šedé), Italian/Welsch Riesling (Ryzlink vlašský), Sauvignon, Traminer (Tramín červený), St. Laurent (Svatovavřinecké), Blaufrankisch (Frankovka) and Pinot Noir (Rulandské modré).
All of our vineyards are included in the program of ecological agriculture; therefore we are not allowed to use chemicals to protect our vineyards. We must not use any chemicals in the wine-making process either - our winery aims to produce wines under the official trademark “BIO”, which we are supposed to get in 2011.
We are proud to say that we produce wines of the best quality. The wine is made from grapes grown solely in our vineyards. These grapes are picked by hand to ensure utterly careful manipulation. The manufacturing process takes place in our cellars in Bzenec. The grapes are quickly and cautiously processed. We use up-to-date grape-processing and wine-making equipment. We do not add any yeast during the wine-making process i.e. we use only the yeasts that are brought in the grapes from the vineyards. This practice is enabled by high quality of our grapes.
After the wine is bottled, the bottles are transported to our ancient wine cellar called Cellar No. 6 (it is in Bzenec as well). This place is the domicile of Bzenia, Ltd and of Arvina Ltd at the same time. Arvina Ltd is our company which trades in old vintages.
Our wine matures in bottles in the Cellar No. 6 for many years, before being put up for sale. The cellar is quite unique – its galleries, which crisscross mutually, are more than 400 m long and more than 500 years old. The cellar is situated in the relic centre of Bzenec and belongs to attractions not only for wine lovers. It is also a place where the history of Moravian viniculture was written - the first Czech wine-association was established in here.
